Moving On Up...

Found out on the last day of post planning that I would be moving to 5th grade to teach reading and writing. I'm looking very forward to the move, but I'm also a bit nervous. Please share any words of wisdom that you have for me! Also, would love to hear from any of you that have taught or are currently teaching either of these subjects...
Thanks guys!!! Hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far!!!

I'm baaaccckkk!

I hate that I've been MIA for so long, but this year has been hectic, to say the least! This is our first time departmentalizing in 3rd grade at my school, so it's been quite a learning experience.  We have had to change schedules about 4 times since the beginning of the year so that has been hard on the teachers, and most especially the kiddos.

I am also working on my gifted endorsement which has required quiet a bit of homework.  This hasn't given me much time to create new things for my TpT store, but I'm hoping that maybe I'm getting back on track and that things are calming down.

This week (Thanksgiving break) was the perfect time for me to get back online and I hope that I can at least make it a weekly event.

To celebrate Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I am offering this freebie on my TpT store...Please check it out!

Hi all, sorry I have been MIA.  Ball season has started back in full force and that means running 3 kids to baseball and softball practice.  While I've been sitting at all of these practices I finally finished up a new item for my TpT store. This is a powerpoint on the 8 parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs, conjunctions, interjections and prepositions). I used it in sections to introduce each part of speech on a weekly basis and now I'm beginning to use it as a review to prepare for standardized tests. Go check it out if you have time, there is even a free preview you can download to see how you like it.

I don't know about you guys but I can just "taste" Spring Break around the corner.  I am on the countdown and  ready for some sun and warm weather.  My kiddos have been stuck inside for recess because it's either been too cold or raining here in Georgia, so they are ready to get out and play, and I'm ready for them to do the same.  I think it would help so much with their "active" behavior.

Hope everyone is relaxing and keeping that "thirst for knowledge" going!!!

Getting ready...

Well the past couple of weeks have been kind of crazy....I've been sick and I've had a sick child. All 3 of the kids have started baseball/softball practice and we've been car shopping for our oldest. We finally found her a car on our day off yesterday, Yay!!! Now she has about 3 months until she can drive if by herself but hopefully she'll get in some good practice before then.

We are already beginning to prepare for our standardized test in April (we have a practice one in March which will hopefully give us a good indication of what we need to be working on until the "real thing"). I really start getting stressed this time of year because no matter how well you think you've taught something or how smart you think your kiddos are, "that" test always seems to throw some of them for a loop! I hope to be getting some review materials up on my TpT store soon so please be on the look out for that. I will post previews here when they are ready.

Elapsed Time - Freebie

So...we've been working on elapsed time for the past week in our third grade class.  As you all know, elapsed time is an extremely hard concept for the kiddos to understand.  We've been practicing with manipulatives, number lines and t charts. They are beginning to understand a little better than when we first started, but we've still got a long way to go.

On Thursday, we will play a Hop 'n Write game with these new elapsed time Valentine task cards.  My kids love Hop 'n Write, Scoot...whatever name you use. This will give me an idea of who needs additional practice so I know who to pull back in small group time.  During small group, I can take about 4 or 5 of these cards and practice with students on solving the problems with number lines and t charts. If you haven't used task cards during small group, I highly recommend it, you can find out a lot about your kiddos.

I would love it if you would check out these Valentine elapsed time task cards on my TpT store.
It's a Freebie I'm offering so you can check out my work.  Hope you enjoy!

Daily Grammar Practice

Daily Grammar Practice (DGP) is something that I started using this year in my classroom. It is a spiral review of many grammar skills. I have seen a huge growth in my students' scores on these assessments, as well as on standardized tests. The assessments start out fairly easy and get more in depth as the year goes on. These DGP assessments cover 8 parts of speech (nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, interjections and prepositions), quotation marks, subject/verb agreement, types of sentences, comparative and superlative adjectives/adverbs, commas, capitalization, and punctuation. It is a spiral review of all 3rd grade common core language standards.

Please check this out in my TpT store.
